Fishing with Val

We drove to Monterey for 2 days to go fishing with Val and her kids. Meredith's husband works that way so they met us there as well to fish for the day. We just went along the pier 10 minutes from their house because you didn't need a fishing license. It was fun to see star fish on this rock and it was nice to not be down by the water so nobody got wet. We stayed for like 3 hours. It was a fun. Val has never fished before but has learned a lot from a friend and they went a lot during the summer. So she tied all of the knots for us and helped with the bait. It was a lot of fun even if we only caught 2 fish that were gross and tiny. Her friend did show us how to clean it and skin it. Yuck!

She took us Carmel a half and hour away and the kids played in this river. It was fun for the kids and they found crawdads in the river. They loved this little bridge that Cooper would run back and forth on.

We used squid as our bait. Val was a trooper to cut in and I would put it on the lines. She felt bad because worms did better as bait.

This is the fish that Joe caught. Val was so funny screaming trying to figure out how to get it off of the line. Luckily her friend showed up and helped us get it off. It looks like seaweed.

The girls had a fun time trying it as well.

I was surprised at how well Justin and Taylor were at casting the line. Taylor and David were trying to eat the squid and Cooper was mad when we took it away from him. So Gross. Cooper wanted to fish just like everyone else as well but the hook on the end made us nervous.

They were showing off their crawdads.

Kate and Sarah enjoyed going down the river in the tubes in the shallow parts. Val had to leave me with 11 kids while she got Joe from football practice. It made me a bit nervous with all of the kids in the water but it was still fun. I love having them less than 2 hrs away. She is always a blast to be with. Cooper got knocked over and hit their tv stand and almost had to have stiches in his head, but we fixed it with super glue. So other than that it was fun to spend a couple of days with them.
